In previous article, you can find what is PoE Switch. PoE switch or power over ethernet is a device that combines the functions of a switch and a power supply into one.

But What is Non PoE Switch?
As the name implies, non-PoE switches do not support Power over Ethernet. This means it cannot power devices connected to it, such as IP cameras or VoIP phones. PoE switches, on the other hand, can power these devices through Ethernet cables.

Difference Between PoE & No PoE Switch
The main difference between PoE and non-PoE switches is that PoE switches transmit data and power to devices using Power over Ethernet technology, while non-POE switches transmit data only.
Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a technology that allows network cables to carry electrical current, thereby powering devices such as IP cameras, VoIP phones, and wireless access points. PoE switches can provide up to 25 watts per port, while non-PoE switches cannot provide any power.
When it comes to data transmission, PoE and non-PoE switches function the same. They both forward packets based on the destination MAC and IP address. The only difference is that PoE switches can power devices, while non-PoE switches cannot.

Can normal switch connect with poe?
For non-PoE switches, only a PoE injector needs to be installed to power a few devices to be PoE-ready. The injector is able to add power and then transmit both data and power to the powered device. Users need an extra cable to connect to the power outlet. In this solution, if one PoE injector fails, it only affects one device. But if a PoE switch PoE is powered off, all PoE devices will go down.

PoE Switch vs Non-PoE Switch: Which One to Choose?
Maybe you have brief understanding between PoE Switch and Non-PoE Switch. But which to buy? Assuming your devices are all non-PoE, i.e. computers, laptops, and other powered network devices. For this case, you are better off using a regular non-PoE switch. You can save a lot on the Switch, but frankly,  You have to buy PoE injectors to make them compatible.
Although non-PoE network switches can also obtain PoE by installing injectors. But PoE switches have some advantages over non-PoE switches.
Flexibility – The PoE switch is powered by the existing PoE network infrastructure without the need for additional wires. This gives you the flexibility to use switches wherever you need them.
Good performance - PoE switches are designed with advanced features such as high-performance hardware and software, adaptive PoE compatibility, strong network security and environmental adaptability. It provides users with better performance.
Cost-effective - users do not need to purchase and deploy additional wires and outlets with PoE switches. Thus, significant savings in installation and maintenance costs

Today, there are a variety of PoE devices on the market. Large offices and campuses have multiple access points, IP cameras and phones. All of these are usually PoE compatible. The advantage of a PoE switch is that you can connect PoE and regular devices to it. Hence, investing in a PoE switch will allow you to connect any type of device in the future.
